Review of the CRAZIEST week in MMA History with Kevin Iole of Yahoo!

After two weeks of laziness, my MMA blog is back. Last week had to be the CRAZIEST week in MMA history. On Tuesday morning, rumors ran wild of the death of Kimo Leopoldo, UFC veteran and early MMA pioneer. Kimo was reported dead due to complications from a heart attack, but it turns out he was alive and well in Orange County, California. Fast forward to late Tuesday Night, when it’s revealed that one half of Affliction: Trilogy’s main event, Josh Barnett, tested positive for a banned substance and will not be licensed to fight Fedor Emelianenko on August, 1st. The Affliction brass spent Wednesday and Thursday scrambling to find an opponent for Fedor. We hear names like Vitor Belfort, Brett Rogers, Bobby Lashley, and even Jeff Monson thrown around. Finally on Friday, Affliction gives up their search, and decides instead to just CANCEL THE SHOW ALLTOGETHER. Affliction has decided to dissolve their fight promotion division, and have already signed a new clothing deal with the UFC.

That, in one measly paragraph, sums up all the craziness that was last week inside the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.

Rather than break everything down myself, I had the chance to interview Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports. Kevin happens to be the guy who broke most of these stories, and is the man I consider to be the best MMA and Boxing reporter in the business.

My interview with Kevin is attached. We reviewed the craziest week in MMA history, discussed whether or not Fedor Emelianenko will soon find himself in the UFC, and whether or not he can really beat Brock Lesnar in the Octagon. Enjoy.

This interview was conducted live on my Saturday Show, July 25th, 2009.
