I'm Turning 40... By Hoch

So I turn 40 on November 24th. Doesn't seem possible, because in my mind I'm still a 16 year-old high school kid. But my hairline and man-boobs will confirm that I am indeed 40. When all the kids who work at the radio station hear that I'm turning 40, they laugh... they think 40 is so old. (I used to think that when I was their age.) Things have indeed changed a lot in these last 40 years though... Here are some things that have ended in my 40 years:

- The end of the "milkman." When I was a kid, you didn't buy milk at grocery stores. It was delivered to your house (in glass bottles) by the milkman. You would fill out a checklist every week with what you wanted- milk, chocolate milk, cottage cheese, etc. and then the milkman would deliver your order. Every house had a ...

VH1 Is Evil... By Hoch

VH1 has built itself the last few years on the lowest common denominator of TV shows. And I love it. They do shows where they countdown "celebrity feuds" and they do shows where they countdown "celebrity breakups" and they do shows where they'll countdown just about anything. (I love a countdown. I used to listen to Casey Kasem every week.) VH1 has also given us some of the best reality TV as of late with "Celebrity Rehab" and "Celebrity Fit Club." These are the shows I like to watch, folks. I know- they're dumb... they're insulting... they're moronic. I'm ok with that. It's what I like. (I mean, would I really be turning on VH1 to learn something?)

So now, VH1 has unveiled two new shows that have immediately made it to "season pass" status on my TiVo: "Sex Rehab" and "Broke and Famous." "Sex Rehab" is pretty self-explanatory. Dr. ...

Hoch's USFL Memories

Posted 10/27/2009 8:26:00 AM
I watched the USFL special on ESPN's "30 For 30" the other night, and I was magically transported back to a time that seemed so much nicer... happier... exciting. There's something about the USFL that will always bring back nostalgic feelings for me. (Kind of like when you hear a song that was a big part of your childhood.) I know the USFL was only around for 3 years, but I have such great memories from that league- and I don't even know why. To be honest, I found out so many things about the USFL watching the ESPN special that I now question if I really knew anything about the USFL in the first place. I learned that Lee Corso was a head coach in the USFL. Lee Corso from College Gameday! A head coach in the USFL!? Who says you can't learn anything from TV?

My memories of ...

Thank You to Everyone... By Hoch

Most everyone who listens to the show knows that my dad passed away on August 29th.  Lyle Hochman was not only my dad, but also my best friend and also my son's best friend.  As you can imagine, it was (and is) tough to lose him.  The days don't feel the same anymore... Watching sports doesn't feel the same anymore... Waking up in the morning doesn't feel the same anymore.  I'm sure with time, wounds will heal, and as someone told me, "there will be a time when you think of your dad and you'll smile from ear to ear instead of feeling sad and empty the way you do now."

I just wanted to write a quick blog- not as a tribute to my dad- but rather as a tribute to the listeners who have a created such a great community around our show.  After my dad died, I ...

Bad Blog... By Hoch

I watch way too much TV. I feel like my grandmother when she'd "shut it down" every afternoon to watch her "stories." I'm in a phase where I'm watching a good 2 or 3 hours of TV every night. There's just so much good stuff on, even my hours of watching doesn't allow me to see everything I want to see.

My wife and I usually put our son to sleep by 9pm-9:30... and then it's TV time. (Sometimes Facebook time...sometimes I actually read a book or magazine.) If I wasn't in the room, my wife would watch HGTV all night long. There's not a single thing on that network that she doesn't love. She also likes Food Network, DIY, and some sporadic others.

I think my favorite TV network is NatGeo. I'm a huge fan of "Locked Up Abroad," although I must admit that the show has gotten pretty ...
