American Idol Recap... By Hoch

So I made it through another season of American Idol. (I refer to it as AI around the radio station, but Mike Ryan told me it's super-douche to call it AI, so I've stopped.) American Idol was pretty terrible this year. The talent wasn't that great, and I think even more importantly, Simon Cowell wasn't engaged at all. It was his last season on the show, and it seemed like he didn't care about it at all anymore. (Why am I writing so seriously about American Idol? As I look back at this first paragraph, it seems like I thought I was an actual television reviewer when I started this.)

It was all kind of sad for me... I normally look forward to every Tuesday and Wednesday during Idol season, because my wife and I would be into all the contestants and the stories and the competition... but this season ...

This Blog Will Improve Your Life... By Hoch

Every now and then I find a new product or show or item that I think other people would enjoy as well. So I am going to list 5 things right here that I, Marc Hochman, guarantee will make your life better.

1) Watermelon Soda

My family and I went on a cruise a couple months ago, and in one of the ports I found a store that carried this watermelon soda. I had never seen it before, but I figured I'd give it a try... It was fantastic. And I thought I'd never see it again... until I found it at Publix! It tastes like a liquid Jolly Rancher... Very sweet, but it has immediately become one of my favorite drinks. I don't know if they have it at every Publix, but take a look for it the next time you're at the supermarket.

2) Swedish Fish water ice ...

March Ratings Recap

Posted 4/22/2010 10:01:00 PM
The ratings book comes out every month, and after the book comes out I send out a memo/recap to the entire 790 staff.  Here's a copy of that memo, so that everyone can see the real ratings story in this market.
------------------------------------

The March ratings book was released today... Once again 790 The Ticket was the highest rated sports talk station in the market, full week, for Men 18-34 and Men 25-54. In addition, 790 The Ticket won both morning drive and afternoon drive in Men 18-34 and Men 25-54. That’s a good job by all… Congrats.

Here’s a complete recap of the book, with a pretty thorough explanation of what’s going on.

MORNINGS 6AM-10AM MEN 18-34

790/WAXY-AM 1.1

560/WQAM-AM 0.8

RATINGS RECAP... By Hoch

I send a memo out to the entire 790 staff after the ratings book is released each month.  I recap what each of the ratings mean, and show the actual numbers for the two main demographics that are important- Men 18-34 and Men 25-54.  I debated whether or not to post all the same information here on my blog, but we get so many texts and emails asking about ratings... and there's so much false information out there, that I decided I'll post the same information right here for everyone to see.  This is the SAME info I distributed to the 790 Staff in a memo.

The February ratings book was released Thursday... Congrats to all, as I think we had a very good performance as a station. There's no question that 790 The Ticket is the leading sports station in the market right now. We beat WQAM full week ...

Mall Food... By Hoch

For some inexplicable reason, I'm known on the air as somewhat of an expert in mall food.  And, that designation is not completely unwarranted, as the truth is I do enjoy the food from a food court.  Last night I had dinner with Roy at Tony Roma's Express in the Aventura Mall food court.  It got me thinking that perhaps I should share some of my food court expertise with the 790 listeners.

I'm a firm believer that the top food at any mall food court is the Chinese food.  Sesame chicken, some rice, and an egg roll should be the staple of most food court meals.  The key here- and this is important- is to NEVER look inside the Chinese food that you're eating in a mall.  It doesn't matter how big the chunk of chicken is that they serve you-- don't ever cut it open or in half. ...
