This year, the Miami Heart & Stroke Ball, now in its 44th year, will be celebrating more than four decades of success, refined history and widespread recognition. The American Heart Association’s Miami Heart & Stroke Ball holds a place in the local spotlight as one of the most continuous and prestigious charity events in Miami.

The 44th annual event will take place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami. 

The American Heart Association has a long-standing presence in our community and has raised millions of dollars to help fund lifesaving research, education and community programs. Dade Medical College, a postsecondary education and training institution, is this year’s signature sponsor.

 Heart disease and stroke remain the No. 1 and No. 4 leading health threats to American men and women. More than 2,200 Americans die of cardiovascular diseases each day, an average of one death every 39 seconds. While largely perceived as a “man’s disease”, heart disease is also the No. 1 killer of women. In fact, more women die of cardiovascular disease than the next five causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. Stroke is the No. 4 killer of Americans, claiming a life on average every three to four minutes. Each year, about 780,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke.

 Festivities get underway at 6:00 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by a dinner program and brief stage presentation beginning at 8:00 p.m. and dancing throughout the evening.

 Michele Chulick of UHealth, Ian Pesses of Akerman Senterfitt, and George and Marla Bergmann of Bergmann Properties will serve as co-chairs.
