2 Weeks from Jai Alai Party… By Hoch
May 8th, 2008
We’re just two short weeks away from our listener party at Dania Jai Alai, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. In fact, Dan and I went to jai-alai again last night just to check it out one more time. I’m expecting all Hochamaniacs to be there… And I’m expecting you to bring friends too! Again, the event is Wednesday, May 21 at Dania Jai-Alai. The games start at 7pm that night and will go until around 11:30pm.
Game 7 will officially be called “The Dan LeBatard Show Suey Spectacular.” It will read that way in the program and on the scoreboard. And after the 7th game, Dan and Stugotz will take to the jai-alai court and will each attempt to throw the pelota out of the cesta. (We have been assured neither of them will be able to do it.)
If you’ve never been to Dania Jai-Alai before, allow me to set the scene for you so you’re not completely shocked when you walk in. I maintain that the entrance to Dania Jai Alai is probably more depressing than the reception area at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. That’s just the way it is. I wish the entrance could be a little more upbeat, but it’s not, so you’ll have to deal with it. It’s poorly lit… No one is smiling… It smells like 1974… And there’s no one to tell you where to go.
As a 790 The Ticket listener though, you’ll be greeted that night with a free program! Take your program and head into the main area (if you can find it.) That’s where we’re gonna hang out that night… in the seats in front of the court. Just get out of the main entrance area, and it’ll get slightly more uplifting when you see the jai-alai court.
At jai-alai, you bet on the games just like you would a horse race. Win, place, show, quinellas, trifectas, etc. And the other great part that night is the fact that hot dogs and beers are just one dollar! That’s right. Do the math: If you buy 3 beers and 2 hot dogs, it will cost you 5 dollars. If you buy 6 hot dogs and 9 beers, it will cost you 15 dollars. This is going to be a great night, so make sure you’re there.
If you want more information about jai-alai go to www.betdania.com. We’re planning some fun stuff for the night… We’ve invited jai-alai legend Joey to come, although we haven’t received a response yet. And we’re also going to invite South Florida radio legend and jai-alai fan Ed Kaplan to join us too! May 21 at Dania Jai-Alai… The Suey Spectacular!

Hot dogs for $1 and watching Dan and Stugotz on the court–definitely a night not to miss.

Awesome

When you say throw the small pelota, are you referring to Zas
4. Hassenpfeffer | May 8th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I am there. BTW Hoch your description was perfect. To sum it it’s a very sad 1974. I guess that’s why I keep looking for my mom to pick me up in the 72 Kingswood Estate…of course it has the simulated wood panels.

Man, I wish I could be there. I moved up to Philly last fall, but of course I still listen to the show every day. I’m trying to convince my friends to go to the Jai Alai night. If it’s as great as Mike Ryan is making it seem, I’m thinking it could be a new place to hang out.
Did anyone else notice that, earlier this week, something related to the show was called “stupid” by a guest for the second time in a few weeks?

I will be there!
7. Steve R | May 8th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

8. Jim | May 8th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
1 dollar beers? I’m there! I’ll be the stumbling one. And I’ll admit, I’ve never bet on horses so can you maybe explain the different types of bets and such so I can throw down some money? And by the way, it cant be too hard to hit the wall with the pelota! Ive never done it, but come on….
9. Jesse M | May 9th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Is there a limit to how many people can go? How much is admission? I have about ten people on board and the amped! Should be a great time.
10. Hassenpfeffer | May 9th, 2008 at 12:58 am
Jim, I bet it’s harder than you think.
Hoch, is Dan and/or Stugotz going to practice before they do this?
11. Hassenpfeffer | May 9th, 2008 at 1:08 am
Hochamaniacs, any suggestions to make our presents know? Or does Hoch have something planned for us?
12. Hoch | May 9th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Just to respond to some of the questions here… Bring as many people as you’d like… There is no admission fee.
13. TC | May 9th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Hassenpfeffer, my first thought was we should all buy “Hochamania” tshirts from www.horsemuffins.com and then iron on our Blog “Names” onto the back. Sort of like softball jerseys or what women do on bachelorette parties.
But then I accidentally caught my reflection in the mirror and realized that that thought was probably the low point in my life
14. cc | May 9th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Hassenpfeffer, to make our presence known we should wear Fire Aslow tees
15. Hassenpfeffer | May 9th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Funny TC, I had the excat same in my the other day. With the same conclusion.
Nice thought CC but NO.

Its just that there are people out there who support great causes and do great things (running marathons for cancer, donating their time to food kitchens, educating themselves to be doctors), and here I am being a nerd-fan of of the blog of the producer of some crappy local radio station.
I’ve been re-evaluating myself recently fellow Hochamaniacs. The Struggle (black gloved first in the air)
17. cc | May 9th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
King no Aslow ideas or blogs on how this guy is still on radio. Listen to him after Marlins game is brutal. Hopefully his ratings are as bad as him

20. King of Loserville | May 9th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
What’s up fellow maniacs….been taking care of some things but I’m back…
cc, I like the shirt idea…but even that’s too much pub for Asslow…
Can’t say I’ve been listening…I’ve said this before but can any of you imagine…the last thing on earth that you do is listen to Asslow…
Wow…I can’t even imagine…
So what’s the head count looking like for Jai Alai?
Are we gonna make Hoch famous…so he can be proud of his plaque?
21. hoops | May 10th, 2008 at 2:25 am
Now that Zaslows Mavs that he picked to win the West I am curious who he picked. Hochamaniacs fade this guy as he never played ball and knows nothing
22. hoops | May 10th, 2008 at 2:26 am
meant to say his Mavs who he picked lost first round
23. Hassenpfeffer | May 10th, 2008 at 4:50 am
TC, having the smae feelings myself. GOD I can do so much better with my life. I just look at this as fun. I’ll talk to ya at Jai-Alai.
24. Jai Alai player | May 10th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Hey, thats a great idea. I see that someone asks about the admission. It’s free to get in, and that night you get a free program also. Wednesdays are cool, a lot of young people come out and watch us play, and eat and drink for a few buck. So.. hopefully you guys get a good croud and I promise you’ll have fun. We’ll try to play some good jai alai games and hopefully you guys hit a trifecta or two! good luck!!
25. Hassenpfeffer | May 10th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Thanks Jai Alai player. Always good to hear from ya.
Hochamanicas,
Listening to the show yesterday it’s seems the good folks at Dania Jai Alai don’t think the show will get 100 people. I say SUEY to that. I bet the Hochomanics can get 100 people to show up with all of us.
So lets invite as many people as we know to come. Proving that the Hochamanics are a force to be reconed with. Besides I’m looking for free stuff and I figure this would help. LOL But really I am trying to get 25 people there. Hell, $1 Beers and hot dogs it shouldn’t be too difficult.
26. hoops | May 11th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Knicks fan , what part of NY are you from ?
Shout out to the Hochamania movement, now lets get him a show maybe replacing Zaslow
27. Hassenpfeffer | May 12th, 2008 at 9:37 am
Marlins…BEST record in baseball.
AND Dan’s with his total runs scored does not hold up. Is it me or in reality Dan and Zas have the same sports IQ?
VIVA Jai Alai!!!!!

Looks like a great show - wish I could join you.

HOOPS CONEY ISLAND BEACH BROOKLYN NY
30. hoops | May 12th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Cool Knicks Fan. Coney Island kid like Marbury. I had a lot of friends in Brooklyn, especially BedStye. I used to play a ton of ball down there but nothig beats Ruckers park. Knicks fan bring Zaslow down there see if he hangs with the 12 years olds, my guess they dog him

Hassenpfeffer:
Hell yes! The Herald article talks about them being tops in the NL. Forget that! Tops in Baseball! To that I say:
Hello?
32. cc | May 12th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
King, do you have some ideas on how to get this misfit Zas off the air. You seem to love baseball like I do and to listen to him spew his dumb comments that are so off base is a bad reflection on 790. Any ratings posted my friend ?
33. Hassenpfeffer | May 12th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
CC, don;t listen. That’s the best way to get him off the air.
Hell Sid is on the air and he is a trainwrech. Sid’s number suck but he is not going anywhere. I say ask Stugotz at Jai Alia.
BTW: Who is this Ed prick that was on Sunday afternoon? He is a Marlin Hater. I called in 3 times and never got on the air. Ed was haten on the fish and I told the screener that I was from STL and remember a time in the 70′a that baseball not king in the gateway city. I guess Ed just wanted to hate on the fish because he is a Met’s fan. Well Fuck you Ed at the time I am writing this the Marlins are the Best team in baseball with the lowest payroll. Ed I cast you in the same class as Zas….no your lower. Get this fuck off the air. More Mish and Dos Amigos.

Wish I could be there but unable to make this one.
Some great deals for the fans who are watching their wallets…
Like all Wednesday nights, the fronton will be chock full of 99 cent specials. There will be 99 cent hot dog with fries basket, chicken wings, draft beers, sodas, frozen drinks and more.

I actually was there Sat night with my bro in law who used to frequent the Tampa Jai Alai fronton back in the 90’s and wanted to relive the experience
Some observations are
1. You will see more of the Fronton upstairs boarded up than if there was a Category 4 on the way.
2. The refs appear to take full advantage of the hotdog special.
3. I originally thought the players were the only athletes to wear slacks but upon further discussion, we realize bowlers and golfers also gear up in Dockers before the game.
4. Check out the program section on “Ask Mr. Jai Alai
5.When in doubt on who to pick there are two systems to fall back on Birthdays of loved ones or go with the colors of your high school.
6. Make sure to check out the scoreboard graphics when there is a good shot as they were created on either a Commodore 64 or Atari 800 system.
Hope to make it.
37. Dave | May 15th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Count on two more being there. The place brings back memories from when I used to go and the only seats you could find were upstairs in the top rows (long since barricaded and unused).
The place used to ROCK!
I started playing amateur back then (in the late 70’s-early 80’s). There were two locations to play; one in North Miami (NE 18th and 147th st- I think)and the other in Hialeah (called Orbea’s).
If Dan and Jon have never tried to throw a pelota there is no way they will hit the front wall. They will look completely spastic (not a reach for them on a normal day!).
See you there!

How about posting a picture of Lebby on that Hot Dog coupon?
