Odds and Ends… By Hoch

June 16th, 2008

Very excited about our next Dania Jai-Alai night which is this coming Wednesday night. Call me crazy, but I actually look forward to hanging out with the people that listen to our show. I feel like it’s a big, insane, warped, troubled, family… and it just feels so right. Dania Jai-Alai is the perfect place for us LeBatard Listeners to hang out. We’re gonna give away a ton of prizes Wednesday night… A Nintendo Wii, a $100 gift certificate to Texas De Brazil, concert tickets, Marlins tickets, and hopefully more. If you haven’t already planned on joining us Wednesday night, please make plans to do so. Get to Dania Jai-Alai around 7pm and hang out the entire night with us. Also…. just like last time… the hot dogs and beers are only a dollar each, so you’re gonna eat and drink on the cheap.

As is usually the case, a lot of staff members from the radio station will show up… people you hear mentioned on the air occasionally, but never really get to meet. Cyn City will be there; and Jaron the Board-Op, Robot Dave the Board-Op, Kenny The Intern, Ozzie the producer, Steve White, and numerous others. The only real question is whether or not Brandon Guzio will show up. Brandon Guzio, who hosts the midday show with Kevin Rogers, is the only air talent that has NEVER shown up to a Dan LeBatard Show event. Not to the first jai-alai night… Not to the Boomers Kimbo party… not to NOTHING. Will Brandon show up? And if he does, will he be negative?

Anyway, I digress. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone Wednesday night at Dania Jai-Alai…

Here are a couple other bits and pieces that need to be covered. Dan, Stugotz, and I are off this coming Thursday and Friday. Stugotz is going to a wedding in New York and Dan and I are going with some college friends on a gambling trip. Really looking forward to the gambling trip, as our college “group” hasn’t gone on one in a couple of years. I don’t know who’s going to do the show Thursday and Friday, but it’s not going to be us.

In vacation news, we’re also going to be taking vacation for two weeks starting July 21st…. So July 18th will be our last show on the air until August 4th. Sorry to do that to you, but we wanted to get an extended break before football season starts to kick in. Dan actually wanted to take 4 weeks in a row off starting July 18th, but I didn’t think that would be a great idea.

In other news… You may have seen it mentioned in The MIami Herald… Dan, Stugotz, and I have signed brand new 3 year contracts with Lincoln Financial Media, the group that owns our radio station. So we’re signed through 2011, so we’re not going anywhere for a while. I’m really looking forward to continuing to work for this company, as they have been nothing but great to us. Lincoln Financial Media’s corporate offices made the decision to sign us for three years… if it was up to our own local program director Steve White, he would have gotten rid of us by now. He’s essentially being forced to keep us, even though he hates our show. Well, what are you gonna do? Not everyone can love us.

So… I’ll see you at Dania Jai-Alai Wednesday night… and here’s a little sneak preview… We’re going to have a poker tournament at Dania Jai-Alai on Wednesday, July 16th… It’s gonna be like a $30 buy in, and the winner will get a few thousand dollars. So mark your calendar, and more details will be on the way soon about the poker tournament.

See you Wednesday

any chance boog can host the thursday/friday show this week?

  • 2. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 16th, 2008 at 5:05 am

I agree Hoch, your jai alai night is something I look forward to. It really adds to the sport when there are more than two dozen people in the stands. I will be there along with several Hassnepfefferites. Are there any special guest? Is K-Rog coming. I missed Ozzie and Cyn-City last time. Any big name guests.

Hochamanics, fill up the center, front section. See ya there.

  • 3. cc  |  June 16th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

How about a charity event Gary Coleman vs Zaslow one on one ?

  • 4. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 16th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

Put me down for 5 large on Gary.

  • 5. Chicken Little  |  June 16th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

OH MY!!! What will we do 2 whole weeks without The Dan LeBatard Show. PLEASE, OH PLEASE!!! DO NOT LET ZAS fill in. Zas is like something stuck to the bottom of my shoe after a walk through the dog park.

  • 6. TC  |  June 16th, 2008 at 3:58 pm

Hold up. Poker Tournament? If there is even the slightest chance I get to bust Stu Gotz, I am fucking there brother! Whoooo hooooooo!

  • 7. manuel  |  June 16th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

    Four weeks?

    Is LeBatard that lazy?

  • 8. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 16th, 2008 at 8:40 pm

manuel, How can you ask that question? Haven’t you listened to the show?

  • 9. cc  |  June 16th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

Hoch, for those weeks make sure you have the best of Dan’s show as NO ZAS. Good Luck gambling

  • 10. hoops  |  June 16th, 2008 at 11:13 pm

Zaslow do not talk hoops as you are a joke who picked Dallas to win the West a while ago. You know very little except you have season tickets and you could not play Division 3 at all.

  • 11. King of Loserville  |  June 17th, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Hoch, congrats on your new contract…well deserved…I hope you enjoy your time off…

White can “SUCK IT” if he’s upset about keeping your show around…

I will say this…if Asslow fills in for you I’ll run off the Turnpike…I have a 2 hour drive home please don’t do this…it’s inhumane!!!

Hoch…can you give the address for the “fund” that your show is looking to set up…this is a very nice thing for the show to promote and I would like to have the info on hand

    Every little bit helps…

  • 12. manuel  |  June 17th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

I think it’s about time that Hoch produced some “best of…” material (kinda like the internet stuff but longer and less edited) for when they are out.

I would love to hear some classic stuff un-cut.

Outside of that, I hope Boog hosts a few shows…def miss his baseball expertise.

    Hass,

I still don’t believe you, that if you were running a Major League club, you would take Jorge Cantu over Cabrera. Forget the fact that Cabrera is younger and has much much better career numbers, even in a year in which Cabrera is having his worst and Cantu his best Cabrera’s OPS is .828 versus Cantu’s .843.

  • 13. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 17th, 2008 at 3:20 pm

Cabrera has an attitude. He is fat, his defense sucks. So at this stage I would pick Cantu. If you would have asked me a few years ago I would have said Cabrera. That’s that clear thinks up?

  • 14. manuel  |  June 17th, 2008 at 5:00 pm

No prob Hass, you have your opinion. We’ll agree to disagree and I still respect ya brotha.

For me, give me fat and disgruntled Cabrera every day of the week and lets not even go to the defense as a negative. Cantu has double the errors that Cabrera has.

  • 15. hoops  |  June 17th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Hass or Manuel do you have stats on Maybin , curious if he is tearing up the minors ? It’s not just hoops Zas does not know with his statement on D-train. Miller and Badenhop are having better years. Hass does Miller remind you a little of Cole Hamels ? Please no more Zaslow

  • 16. cortes  |  June 17th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

miller doesn’t throw as hard and hamels, nor is his breaking ball as good as hamels. but miller is improving..

    here’s maybin’s stats:
    http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Cameron%20Maybin&pos=LF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=457727

  • 17. manuel  |  June 17th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Miller is looking promising; but like you Cortes, i’m not sure he will be as good as Hamels. Hamels is an absolute stud and is only 2 years younger than Miller.

I’m not complaining though, Miller is pretty good.

Maybin’s stats are pretty bad right now, that OB% is horrible. Hopefully he’ll improve.

  • 18. manuel  |  June 17th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Sorry, meant to say Hamels is only two years OLDER than Miller.

  • 19. cortes  |  June 17th, 2008 at 8:34 pm

a 354 OB% is not terrible by any stretch manuel.. not to mention the slugging % is good, and the OPS is over 800.. he’s having a solid year, should be roaming centerfield next year

  • 20. manuel  |  June 17th, 2008 at 8:40 pm

I guess anything is an upgrade at center and minor league stats don’t always parallel major league stardom. I have hopes for this team to seriously contend next year…well, even more so than this year.

  • 21. sandeel  |  June 17th, 2008 at 10:59 pm

I will not be able to make Jai Alai tomorrow, but I am putting the poker tourney on the calendar.

  • 22. hoops  |  June 18th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Once Again when it comes to hoops Zas was wrong again. I guess when you could not play ball your understanding is the same. Make money hand over fist bet opposite his picks

  • 23. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 19th, 2008 at 1:46 pm

Where were all (6) of the Hochamanicas? I was there with friends. My buddy won $91. Good for Paul he has two kids and could use the money.

  • 24. manuel  |  June 19th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Rain, late work hours and working on PGA prevented me from being able to go this time.

I was there in spirit Hass.

  • 25. King of Loserville  |  June 19th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

Worked late, raind like a mother…and I had class last night…I alreayd apologized to the Hochster in advance…

Hass…give us an update…how was it compared to last time?

  • 26. hoops  |  June 19th, 2008 at 4:36 pm

Hass, could not make it . How was it and was the little man there Zas ?

  • 27. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 19th, 2008 at 5:43 pm

Turnout was good, I think it could have been better but the weather probably kept some folks at home.

Yeah little man Zas was there. I called him out. I told him to stop being such a homer and have some facts to back up his shit. He also told me that if I ever call his show to identify myself as Hassenpfeffer and he promised not to hang up on me.

I also talked race with Dan, a black guy and a latin guy.

I brought along some folks 4 of them were newbies to Jai Alai, they thought is was great.

Good event. Got a free t-shirt, several $1 beers and dogs but no winning winners. Not with the games or give-aways.

About 9:30 or so all the hottie collage girls showed up. The ones that Hoch spoke of a couple of blogs ago. I took 3 of them home.

So all-n-all it was a good night.

  • 28. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 19th, 2008 at 5:45 pm

ONLY JOKING, I didn’t take any of them home. But the rest is true and Jack Mckeon is still a liar.

  • 29. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 19th, 2008 at 5:47 pm

Oh I forgot to mention that the lines for beer and food were much better than last time. It was a good night.

  • 30. cc  |  June 19th, 2008 at 7:39 pm

I thought people were kidding about Zass height and how unathletic he looks. Looking at the pics the pelota is bigger then he and a 3rd grader is more developed muscular

  • 31. Anonymous  |  June 19th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Yah know when K-Rog was up on the court he looked like a 13 year old. Ya Zas is a pipsqueak.

  • 32. Anonymous  |  June 19th, 2008 at 9:10 pm

manuel, I ran across this on Yahoo Sports.
    All Underpaid Team,

3B: Jorge Cantu, Florida, $500,000 – The Marlins always operate on the margins, and this year’s scrap-heap find was one of the AL’s best young players three years ago. Somewhere between his 117-RBI season as a 23-year-old and this year, Cantu lost his stroke. And somewhere since, he has found it with 14 home runs and a .506 slugging percentage that offset his 14 errors, .918 fielding percentage and range of a water pistol.

  • 33. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 19th, 2008 at 9:12 pm

I was the Anonymous poster above.

  • 34. hoops  |  June 20th, 2008 at 12:13 am

Hass, great post. Another underpaid player who when he plays pays dividends is Wes Helms. I say underpaid because the Phils are still paying him. I just caught Zas talking crap again about the NBA, what a joke.

  • 35. manuel  |  June 20th, 2008 at 1:04 pm

    Good article Hass.

I like Cantu and for what the Marlins are doing and need to do to remain financially viable, we need more Cantu’s that perform. My only point was that barring salary issues, Cabrera has been, is and will be a better player…damn, I started to sound like Brett The Hitman Hart there.

  • 36. cc  |  June 20th, 2008 at 3:42 pm

We suffer enough as we turn the radio off during 7-10. Why put Zaslow on Saturday, he sounds like screech and knows sports like Britany .

  • 37. manuel  |  June 20th, 2008 at 5:12 pm

Not to defend Zas, God knows i find him uninformative and has small man complex; but cc, “sounds like screech and knows sports like Britany”? We have to come stronger on the insults (and funnier), no?

  • 38. King of Loserville  |  June 20th, 2008 at 5:44 pm

Screech…like Zack Morris’ butt boy? Yeah man that’s weak!!!

Manuel….nice Bret Hart imitation..now if only they signed you to a 20 year guaranteeed contract…oh wait…that’s right..Vince sold Bret the McMahon Grapefruit juice that day…what a turd…

Anyone see this stuff with Hogan’s son? It’s getting pretty nasty…one question I do have…if Nick was our child and we gave him alcohol and a sports car to drive home that night where would we be right now?

    That shit kills me man…

I just got back from pumping gas and noticed that at the BP the pump says that “gas contains less than 10% ethanol”…I don’t have an E85 engine …WTF!!!

What do Big Oil and Asslow have in common? Both are frauds…one sucks the money out of your pocket and one sucks the life out of a sports radio station…

I’m glad Asslow went to Jai Alai…he must have been in his comfort zone playing with pelotas!!

  • 39. manuel  |  June 20th, 2008 at 6:10 pm

    Right on King.

Funny enough, i happened to click over to Colin Cowheard (spell?) for a minute and he was on a rant that there’s a reason certain people are #2 for a long time meaning long time assistant coaches and that they should not be elevated to being the main guy because if they were #2 for so long, maybe they don’t have what it takes to be in charge.

He used analogies from all over the place including saying that you know when a guy is a top notch columnist off the bat and actually gave props to our boy Lebitz.

This leads me to why Zas actually is a full time host now. He was #2 for a long time (producing) and hosting the weekend stuff, in fact, didn’t KRog come in after him? Anyways, I’m still not sure why Steve White elevated him to the 7-10 slot considering he doesn’t bring anything to the table. Oh what, he’s got the fans perspective? That’s old and boring, what is this QAM?

    Rant over.

  • 40. hoops  |  June 20th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Good stuff King and Manuel. Zas has a Napolean Complex and really thinks he is a celebrity. He is a joke and so is his basketball knowledge along with all sports

  • 41. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 21st, 2008 at 6:55 am

King, you don’t need to have an E85 engine to run 10% ethanol. I moved here from Missouri 8 years ago and I was pumping the same thing in my car for 3 years before I moved. It will not hurt your car, you might see a very slight drop in MPG but we are talking about 1 or 2 MPG lost.

Yeah, I tried to listen to Zas the last couple of days. Boy that’s difficult. I really have an issue with someone that puts his opinion out as fact and has nothing to back it up. BTW when I called Zas a month or so ago he was really confrontational but when I confronted him at jai alai he didn’t cop an attitude. I guess because I’m 6′ and was looking down on him. LOL Really the guy is a train wreck and has no place on the air. Really the rah, rah guys on QAM at least have fact to back up there opinions or at least played the game.

Where is knicks fan? He hasn’t posted in at least a month.

Anyone know what station DEFO is on. Is there any person on radio worse then Zas or smaller

  • 46. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 21st, 2008 at 3:48 pm

CC defo is on 640 AM mornings M-F. Good show. You don’t have to listen to Sid or Joe.

  • 47. cc  |  June 21st, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Thanks alot Hassenpfeffer. Now if they could have only put DEFO 7-10 the Dos or Guzio. What are sprts fans missing, Zaslow has never even played sports seriously. He is downright awful

  • 48. ZasFan  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 3:37 am

My friend talked to Boog the other day. He told me he thought Zas was great. I also saw Hank at restaurant and he said he likes Zas’s style. Those are two legends. Zas is an up and comer, he has been a heat fan for so long, he knows everything about the heat…very credible.

Another funny note, one time I saw him live somewhere a year or to ago (i forgot where) and these hot ass girls were telling me how much they love Zas and although on the surface he wasnt an amazing looking guy, the fact that he is a celebrity and the way he approaches his show makes him really sexy. They said they would probably show interest if Zas had any interest. We all know hes married though, so I guess that wont happen. But Im sure with the opportunities he could have, it will be really hard to stay faithful.

I see you guys like to criticize him a lot, and you all are entitled to your opinion, but the guy does know a lot. Also, yes, it is true he did not play Division 3, but he did play high school ball and supposedly at the local Community Center he played a lot of pick up ball, and had a great spot up 12 foot jumper.

  • 49. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 5:38 am

Zasfan you are full of shit and a bold face liar. Just like Jack McKeon. I am guessing you are Zas and the above comments come from you jaded opinion of yourself. I doubt if Hank even knows who you are. Played high school ball? What was he the towel boy? I know when I when to high school if you were at least 6’3’ you weren’t even considered for the team. What high school did you go to, Lollipop Guild High? Later Zas, please post more here, it just help prove more that you are an ass.

I did figure out why Zas is on the air so much. Where else will you find someone to work 7 days a week for $25.000 a year.

  • 50. King of Loserville  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 2:09 pm

This is what I have been saying forever guys…fiscally responsible decision for WAXY…

Zasfan…ur friend talk to Boog the other day? Where in Atlanta?

That’s like saying my mother’s brother’s son has a friend who cleans the dirt at Tuner Field on the weekends and ran into Boog as he was doing his make up in the corner…

Asslow…stop coming on here and writing shit about yourself…it’s weak…

Manuel…he was confrontational? what a shocker…you are talking about someone who only talks in absolutes and in common trains of thoughts…

Michael Beasley is going to be the MVP of the league!!

  • 51. King of Loserville  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 2:11 pm

    above was Asslow’s last edict…(Beasley)

Hank wouldn’t know him if he was standing in front of him in a Heat jersey with a “Hello-My Name is” sticker….

  • 52. hoops  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 2:47 pm

First of Zas knows nothing about hoops. He could not tell you how to break a 1-3-1 or what a box and one is. Come on man a 12 foot jump shot against who the 5′5 and under league. Look at his predictions all wrong and to talk the crap he does when not one D3 school would look at him, a joke.

  • 53. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 3:40 pm

    Musical Interlude:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/notebook?page=bbtn/takemeout

Gammons kinda of sounds like Randy Newman.

Spain Vs. Italy today. If anyone follows soccer and the Fish are only a game back.

    OH and Zas still blows.

  • 54. cc  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 3:41 pm

George Michaels and Pee Wee Herman do better ball handeling then the smurf Zas

  • 55. King of Loserville  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Hass…I understand what you are saying…I work in the automotive industry and the service industry…I find it a total disgrace that we as a country come up with a solution for not using crude oil in corn, then have these multi-million dollar advertisement intiatives so show they are going green only to find out that you can put less then 10% ethonal in your tank…

You know who has been paying these ads…that’s right…us…anyone who has bought a car or will in the future…

it’s another case of knowing too much I guess…

Off topic, but had to get that out there…

Speaking of knowing too little…and just being little…I think that after the fist book with the new format things will change if the rating aren’t getting any better…

Let’s hope the Marlins make the playoffs…

  • 56. hoops  |  June 22nd, 2008 at 7:14 pm

The guy picks Dallas to win the West after the Kidd trade. Anybody that knows ball knew the Nets stole that trade. A few years ago he says draft Roko, not in the league and continues to pick the Heat. Bottom line is he never played and is a joke

  • 57. Zasfan  |  June 23rd, 2008 at 1:57 am

Why do you guys think Im Zas? Just because I am a fan of Zas doesnt mean I am Zas. Zas doesnt need to respond to his critics, his work speaks for itself. Even the best radio hosts have critics.

Also, Hoops I see you post here a lot and you are entitled to your opinions, thats fine. I am interested to hear them. Surprisingly enough, however, you have yet to articulate your opinion on a few certain topics. Specifically, I would like to hear your opinion on Zas’s mid-to-late season prediction concerning who will win the West and Zaslow’s baketball playing experience. Also, be kind enough to explain your opinion of what type of university would have been willing to offer Zas a scholarship when he was in College. Thanks. Much appreciated.

  • 58. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 23rd, 2008 at 4:11 am

Zasfan not sure who is a bigger joke you or your idiot idol. But keep posting maybe we will have an answer is a week or two.

Yeah, King I stand by my statement from months ago. K-Rog will be back at the 7-10 spot after baseball season. BTW I work for the “Who ya gonna call” auto company.

  • 59. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 23rd, 2008 at 1:27 pm

You know how Dan loves that “You a hater Rogers” clip from the Kimbo press conference. That what some of you guys are. You a hater hoops.

Meanwhile, Hoch if you see this that Jai-Alai jingle is brilliant! I don’t know if you have anything to do with those, but its running through my head right now.

“We got poker, ponies and jai-alai. Poker, ponies and jai-alai.” God please stop the music. Please stop it! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hoops, you are a hater. A) you don’t have to play a sport to know it. Ok, that’s all I’ve really got.

Why isn’t Dan and Stugotz on the schedule for today? I don’t know if I can go 3 days without them. Jeez, what am I going to do for those two weeks… Those will be 10 loooong afternoons at work. At least someone’s enjoying a vacation!

I actually think Defo is pretty good on the radio. It’s a shame he basically got shoved out of the Ticket, at least that’s the impression I got.

I must admit Sid is growing on me; but I flip back and forth between Defo and Sid.

Can’t stand Joe Rose and I HATE Mike and Mike, the fakest duo on Radio. I would rather be tied to a chair with Zas on loop for 24 hours than listen to one minute of “greenie” and “golic”…f’n idiots.

Any one check out the black jack at Hard Rock yet?

    Can someone post a report?

    - how many tables?
    - minimum bet at the tables, maximum bet?
    - was it packed, basically impossible to grab a chair?

I love to gamble and play poker at the Kennel Club all the time out here in WPB; but I wouldn’t mind making the trek down to Hollywood for some Black Jack.

Oh, thank god… My Monday is saved!

manuel, I agree with you. Defo, pretty good. I also didn’t like Sid at first, but he’s good. Joe Rose? Too much sports. And I actually watch SportsCenter in the morning over M&M. I can’t stand those guys!

Shit, my Monday is NOT saved. K-Rog, not my favorite…

I praise most except Zas just as you can express your opinion. Cool. Manuel from what I heard the minimum is $25 and max $100. Hopefully the info is right.

  • 66. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 23rd, 2008 at 7:53 pm

I heard the min was $15 anyway too rich for my blood. But I guess if you’re the only game in town you can charge what you want.

hey this thing is working, just like Dan, Stugotz and Hoch.

  • 68. cc  |  June 24th, 2008 at 12:36 am

I can not listen to Mike and Mike. I also do not listen to Zaslow at all . I hope the King is right about putting K-Rog back

  • 69. Hassenpfeffer  |  June 24th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Say NO to Zas listen to Andrew Siciliano and Krystal Fernandez on 640AM.

I also tried to post the mins and maxs for the HardRock but it wasn’t working. My above post should have been “hey this thing is NOT working, just like Dan, Stugotz and Hoch.”
