Summer TV… By Hoch

June 30th, 2008

If you read my blog, you know I like to use this forum to share things with you that I find interesting. Whether it’s cereal from the dollar store (Blueberry Muffin Tops) or Dania Jai-Alai, I always like to share whatever I’m “in” to at the moment. This weekend I discovered a great new high-def channel (that I think is only available on Comcast.) It’s called Mojo, and it’s got a few of the best tv shows I’ve seen in a while.

I had been watching Mojo off and on for a few weeks since I got Comcast. (I’ve had the dish for many years, but I just switched because, among other things, I wanted to be able to receive Howard TV.) The first show I started watching on Mojo was called “Dr. Danger.” It’s a show about Dr. Bob Arnot, who you may recognize as a former NBC news reporter. He travels to fascinating places on this show and does “adventure” stuff. I’ve watched shows where he’s gone to Afghanistan, Saudi Arabi, Somali, and numerous other locations. The show is wild- partly because he seems a bit insane. (We’re working to get him on the show with Dan. I think he’d make a really interesting interview.)

So, while I had been watching “Dr. Danger” for a few weeks, I kept seeing promos on Mojo for some of their other programs. So I set my DVR to tape a bunch, and this weekend I sat down to watch. And I have discovered two great shows that I suggest you check out if you get Mojo.

This first is “Wall Street Warriors.” It’s a reality show that follows people in New York that work on Wall Street. There’s a rookie day trader… A fund manager… A stockbroker that seems like he belongs in the movie “Boiler Room…” And a couple others. It’s such a great inside look at Wall Street and people trying to make it. It’s shot in high definition and it’s put together perfectly. I was just sitting there watching- transfixed on whether or not frozen orange juice concentrate futures were going to go up or down. That’s how mesmerizing the show is… Who the hell cares about oj futures? But as you get into the show, you really become attached to the characters and the drama. (You don’t need to know anything about Wall Street to enjoy the program.) I watched 3 episodes of Wall Street Warriors this weekend, and I’m craving more.

The other show on Mojo that I fell in love with is called “Start Up Junkies.” It’s another reality program, this time about people that are “addicted” to building start-up companies. I’ve always been fascinated with entrepreneurs as it is. This show is a great inside look at people that risk EVERYTHING to build a new concept or business. Just like Wall Street Warriors, you get a really great inside look at what it takes to do what they do. I watched an episode where the owner of the new company is trying to get venture capital to keep the business going. It’s fascinating to see the ups and downs of a start-up. (It also gave me a bit of a start-up jones. I’d kind of like to start a business and grow it, but I don’t have the time, capital, or balls to do it.)

So there you have it. My new love for the Mojo network. It’s not all I watched this weekend though. I also watched Celebrity Family Feud on NBC which is so ridiculously terrible that I can’t wait for the next episode. I couldn’t believe that gangsta rapper Ice-T would subject his family to this nonsense. (Man, he has a hot, white wife.) The other families on the episode I saw were Joan Rivers family, Wayne Newtwon’s family, and Raven Symone’s family. (Raven Symone, who I remember as the little girl on the Cosby Show, is so annoying that I actually fantasized about punching her in the face.)

It was also interesting to see Joan Rivers and Wayne Newton in the same room. They are both grotesque looking due to numerous plastic surgeries. I found myself feeling bad for them, and repulsed by them, at the same time. But all four of those shows have made it onto my summertime tv list: Dr. Danger, Wall Street Warriors, Start Up Junkies, and Celebrity Family Feud. And I’m really just biding my time until Big Brother kicks off on CBS.

Mr Hochman, I always feel dirty whenever I watch crappy reality tv. It literally makes me nauseous to watch MTV. I don’t know how you do it.

  • 2. TC  |  June 30th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

But strangely I love Cops. The original reality tv show. Something happened on last nights show that made me laugh for a good 5 minutes. Lets just say one of the locals said something hilarious. Cant describe it any better.

  • 3. Anonymous  |  June 30th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

  • 4. Anonymous  |  June 30th, 2008 at 5:11 pm

Crapolla television to all that you listed,Hoch. Television is nothing but crap. Thank God for baseball.

  • 5. manuel  |  June 30th, 2008 at 6:44 pm

My favorite TV shows of all time off the top of my head are:

    * Lost
    * Seinfeld
    * The Simpsons
    * MST3K
    * Mythbusters

    Yes, I’m a geek.

I can not stand reality TV and like TC said, MTV makes me want to puke…literally.

Of course, like most of us on this board (except probably Hoch), I watch all sports. Found myself watching the tennis channel yesterday.

  • 6. BB  |  June 30th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Hoch you have to watch Three Sheets on MOJO, the host travels around the world drinking with locals it is hilarious.

  • 7. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 1st, 2008 at 2:10 am

Just say no to InBeb. Fuckers. If InBev takes over AB that would be Bud. Stop drinking there product. I will be posting more on the hostale take over by InBev on blogs to come.

Sorry Hoch didn’t even read this one. And I always do. Fuck InBev.

This will be my point for a while.

  • 8. King of Loserville  |  July 1st, 2008 at 1:24 pm

Hoch, I like reality shows too…but in my opinion they are loosing their flare…there are some that are staged, some are borderline scripted…

Hello…people a reality show is just like any other show…the only thing is that before the show you were told that these are “real” people going through “real” situations…

    I like Big Brother…but it’s scripted to follow a certain flow…

Let’s see you have casting months before they show…like a regular show… a set, like a regular show, someone to direct the flow of the show…a director in a regular show, a host or production team on a reality show…

oh but what…there is one thing missing…the fucking script…

Chalk one up for Hollywood…they found a way to put on a show and fuck the TV and screen writers at the same time…

    Congrats….A-holes!!!

And Speaking of A-holes…Asslow congrats on graduating yesterday to A-hole status…no longer are you Asslow…but A-Hole…

The Marlins but together a nice win…in an ungrateful market…and this fake, who probably didn’t even watch the game (probably watching a TiVO of the draft) has the nerve to say they are on pace for 84 wins, but…

    1. They are not making the playoffs
    2. Pinto was bad today, but he is usually good (what games have you been watching) this guy has one food in Triple A every night hew steps out (but “we like Pinto” according to A-Hole)
    3. Johnson is coming back and Tucker is gone…congrats you have had 15 hours of other people’s sports talk to come up with that great analysis…

What’s better than a Sunday afternoon walk off win? Following it up with a Monday night Walk off win…

A-Hole at least come on and say I didn’t watch the game…

Dan does it all the time…he lives in South Beach, you think his ass is home any night of the week?

You stink at analysis…you have no info to back your claims and look your on radio you tool…do you have to sound like you are reading stats? What the fuck…memorize them before you come on, you may come across with at least a nugget of sports knowledge…

Guys…Dan’s show as rallied around Jai Alai, movie premieres, Karaoke(wtf?)…rally around this team…

You have the VP on the air every freaking week…

    Let’s go Hochman…get this rally going…

  • 9. cc  |  July 1st, 2008 at 2:47 pm

King of all Bloggers, did you go to see Zas at the Max Nutrition ? How mch longer is he on radio

  • 10. manuel  |  July 1st, 2008 at 2:57 pm

    Hass,

I read about the attempted buy out/take over by InBev in the money section of USA Today.

The only gist that I got from it is that AB thought the per share price that they were offered was low.

Does AB really want to sell their company to a foreign beer manufacturing?

Is there nothing left that’s going to be owned by American’s anymore??

  • 11. King of Loserville  |  July 1st, 2008 at 3:04 pm

cc,Did I see A-Hole at Max Nutrition? well if you count the turd that the poodle left behind in the parking lot of Max Nutrition then yes…

    Hoch…rate the following Reality shows..

    Survivor
    Big Brother
    The Amazing Race
    The Real World
    The Mole
    Moment of Truth

How many shows are there are TV now a days after you remove the games shows and reality shows?

    Everyone has a reality show…

Flavor Flav…Run DMC, Tila, Bret Michaels, Gene Simmons..Hulk Hogan….Brooke Hogan on July 19th..

But these are by far the best…the total rejects of the world…the ones that were nobodies and came on TV to glorify the non-existence…

I mean talk about turning your life into a circus…

    1.”New York”
2.The douche from “That’s Amore” and his side kick cowboy butt buddy…

These are the people that have taken the “art” of acting and turned intoa joke…

So here is the tyipcal production meeting for these morons:
ok when the camera comes on say whatever you want…
Don’t worry if you sound like a total baboon with an IQ of 50…we will have our editing team make it look good…

    Now…real reality shows I’m am all about…

    48 Hours: Hard Evidence
    Dateline
    The Investigators

Don’t get me wrong I like the empty calories too…but shit with all the empty calories that our society engulfs…I can’t understand why we are the most obese country in the world

  • 12. Hoch  |  July 1st, 2008 at 3:13 pm

Uncle Luke has a reality show starting August 4 on VH1…

  • 13. King of Loserville  |  July 1st, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Hass & Manuel…this is unfortunately where we are heading guys…

The leaders of this country have pissed on everyone in an effort to build their fortunes in weapons and oil…

This country has been kamikazed from within…

Keep your heads up….everyone…we need to really take a hard look at our stance as a country…

Why are we the international police for the world when we can’t even stop a river from destroying the middle of this country?

We need to get everyone back here to take care of our country…our farmers, our land…The country is fucking flooded…are you waiting for the capital to flood before something is done?

  • 14. manuel  |  July 1st, 2008 at 4:29 pm

    Hoch,

You guys need to get on Luke about this. That’s the type of announcement that should be made on your show.

    What gives?

BTW, where the hell has Fake Howard been, did he run out of material?

  • 15. TC  |  July 1st, 2008 at 5:07 pm

Man is it depressing around here. Keep it light Gentlemen. We still got the bombs. America aint going no where.

  • 16. cc  |  July 1st, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I wish Uncle Luke had the 7 slot

  • 17. manuel  |  July 1st, 2008 at 7:05 pm

A couple of times on the weekend Luke was on with Terry Kirby and I thought they made an awesome duo. It was a lot of fun.

  • 18. cc  |  July 1st, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Why dies 790 put Zas on the air ? Thursday and Friday he is on in the afternoon, are you kidding

  • 19. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 5:19 am

manuel. I don’t think that AB wants to sell. Being from St. Louis Missouri, I do know the enpact that AB has not just on St. Louis but the Nation. This is our last and greatest brewers The CEO was for it 4 days before the vote to go against the inbev take over. Trust me this will be a bad thing for America, St. Louis and the American Beer drinker.

Hoch, I’m lost don’t know these shows. Flip out is back on the air. LOL

BTW Hock I will be taking over your blog when you are on vaction to educate everyone the badness of InBev.

  • 20. manuel  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 1:55 pm

If it happens, it will be Sam Adams for me, honestly, the best American beer ever produced.

  • 21. hoops  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 2:18 pm

I agree with you King on your comments. That is how I feel when I hear him talk about the NBA. Yeah I wanna get my info from a guy that can’t dunk on a nerf hoop

  • 22. TC  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 3:15 pm

Ok Hochamaniacs, heres a hypothetical I’d like some opinion on.

How does one lay a girl who speaks minimal english? (ie Hello, How are you, Goodbye - thats it)

And please don’t tell me to just whip it out. Tried that already, didnt work.

  • 23. manuel  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 4:11 pm

    TC:

You go out to a loud club (to reduce the conversation), make sure you do some hot dirty dancing and get her plenty drunk.

    If she’s into you…guaranteed lay.

  • 24. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 7:07 pm

And just because this blog is more out of control than normal.

Police: Kentucky john paid prostitute with $100 fuel card

JULY 2–A Kentucky woman is facing prostitution charges for allegedly trading sex for gasoline. Angela Eversole, 34, was nabbed last weekend during a police stakeout at a Days Inn, where she allegedly trysted with customer Kenneth Nowak. According to court records, Nowak admitted paying for Eversole’s services, in part, with a $100 Speedway gas card. Eversole was hit with a prostitution rap and also charged with doing business without an occupational license. Nowak was charged with promoting prostitution. Eversole and Nowak are pictured below in mug shots snapped following their June 27 arrests. A local prosecutor noted that it was sad to see someone selling their body for gas, in this case about 25 gallons worth.

  • 25. cc  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 9:42 pm

Put Zaslow on when your on a date and she will go into a trance

  • 26. King Louie  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 9:51 pm

MOJO is the shit. There was a show for a minute called the KING of Miami. It was some crazy looking white guy who moved from Ohio to Miami and tryed to make a name for himself. It was pretty funny. Also, Hoch Ice T’s Wife has a video of herself stripping naked and making her ass clap on the internet somewhere. Its Diffently a must see. Her name is Coco. She has a super nice dumper on her! Hochamania for Life Homes!

  • 27. cc  |  July 2nd, 2008 at 10:25 pm

Goldie does a solid job and same with the Dos. I think King said by football No Zas at 7 . What about the above choices just anybody

  • 28. King of Loserville  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 7:27 pm

I think we found the NEW 7pm time slot host….Old LOU (the charity winner)

Worse thing that happened to me yesterday…listening to A-Hole on LeBatard’s show…

Dan what the hell are you doing? Don’t bring that turd back on your show unless you want to start a revolution…

Stop getting A-Hole ratings…it’s bad enough they placed him after the most listened to show on 790…I know that game already…

    Get A-Hole off the radio…swtich to 610 at 7pm!!

  • 29. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 8:04 pm

I switch to 640 at 7pm, if there is no Marlins on.

But yeah when I heard Zas on the Levits show I went straight to the Mad Dog.

  • 30. cc  |  July 3rd, 2008 at 8:12 pm

King, any ratings ? They should give Mish 7. I can’t understand why they put him on, his sports IQ is weak

  • 31. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 4th, 2008 at 5:32 am

Happy 4th y’all. I am donating my time to St. Matthew’s Church in Hallandale. That would be where the liar Jack McKeon goes when he is in town. They hold a BBQ to raise funds to feed the homeless. I am not a member since I gave up the church years ago for a lent resolution. Something about having nuns and priest tell an 11 year old boy that god needed his father more than me. I have an issue with that. Anyway I do this because they are good people and I am doing something worthwhile with my drinking time. So I will do good and have some fun.

Later I am on Hollywood Beach for fireworks. I am not happy with our country at this point. Gas over priced, GW is a Stupid DICK, jobs are hard to come by and the dollar is in the toilet. I have to reflect things could be a lot more fucked up. So Thanks to all that gave us one more Independece Day and Fuck all those that tried to end it. Long Live the USA, Long live Freedom. This is a great country and will be better in the future. As Dan Rather once said to end the CBS Evening News, “Courage”. We were born with
that we are Americans. So stick that in your Yankee Doodle hat and call it Macaroni.

Everyone Have a Great Independence Day.

    Das Hassenpfeffer

  • 32. hoops  |  July 4th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

What a mistake. I turned on my radio and Zas is on it was not only bad but he just does not understand sports, that is why I guess he could not play them.

  • 33. Whore Island President  |  July 4th, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Happy 4th. of July! I am spending my 4th. sunning by the pool, drinking pina colas and chasing the cabana boy around the pool. Y’all have a happy 4th.

Das Hassespfeffer, funny post too. Now, excuse me, I got a cabana boy to chase until him catches me.

  • 34. cc  |  July 4th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

    More Ed less Zas

  • 35. cc  |  July 5th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

Kind, did you hear the little smurf ?

  • 36. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 5th, 2008 at 11:16 pm

Yes A LOT more Ed and no Zas.

Whore Island President, is it gay whore island.

  • 37. Whore Island President  |  July 5th, 2008 at 11:42 pm

No. Why don’t you come over here and let me chase you around. I’ll make you my sex slave and make you peel me some grapes.

  • 38. hoops  |  July 6th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Somebody said post a dumb comment by Zaslow. The guy calls Richard Jefferson the most overrated player, ok. The guy is a lock down defender, can beat you off the dribble, rebound and shoot the rock. This coming from a guy that could not play Division 3.

  • 39. roy jones jr  |  July 6th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

hmm i guess Hoch isnt having a problem with horsemuffins.com or money if hes spending all this time watching TV.

  • 40. cc  |  July 6th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Yes Ed would be great for 7 or anybody but Zaslow

  • 41. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 6th, 2008 at 9:58 pm

Please go here http://www.saveab.com/ and sign the petition.

This is an effort to stop InBev from taking over the only U.S. major brewery. Just think in the amount of time it takes to rip Zas you could be doing something of national importance.

  • 42. Hassenpfeffer  |  July 6th, 2008 at 10:08 pm

Yeah, Ed would be great to follow the Levits Crappfest.

  • 43. enjoymnclemymn  |  August 3rd, 2008 at 5:34 pm

    Very nice!!
