Hurricane Football Starts… By Hoch

August 22nd, 2008

I love this time of year. Not that I’m a huge college football fan, because I’m not. But I am a “football” fan. I just love when football season rolls around. (I can even watch a quarter or two of pre-season football.) So, my beloved Miami Hurricanes kick off their football season this Thursday night at their new home stadium- Dolphins Stadium. (I’m not one of those people that cares that they’re not playing in the Orange Bowl anymore. In fact, I’ll probably go see some Canes games this season BECAUSE they’re not playing in the Orange Bowl.) But I digress….

The reason I was writing this blog was to invite you to our next Dan LeBatard Show event, which is Wednesday, August 27 at Soo Woo Japanese Steakhouse in Doral. We’re bringing with us to Soo Woo FIFTY PAIR of tickets to see the Hurricanes home opener, which just happens to be the following night. 50 pair of tickets is a lot to give away. My guess is that if you come out, you’re going to have a pretty decent shot of winning a pair. (If 100 people show up, then you have a 1 in 2 chance… and so on.)

Just show up at Soo Woo Japanese Steakhouse in Doral this Wednesday night and enter the random drawing for the tickets. Every 10 minutes we’ll be randomly calling out winners for pairs of tickets… You don’t have to do anything to win tickets, except be there!

Here’s the address:
9753 NW 41 St.
Doral, FL 33178
305-477-4477

And their website is www.thesoowoo.com
I’m always amazed when we do these events, because a lot of people show up and people always tell me that they have a great time hanging out with the show. In my radio history, before doing the LeBatard Show, a “successful” radio appearance would be if 4 people showed up. And no one had fun. And, truth is, no one cared either. This show is different though… We generally try and make it worth your while to show up at one of our events. And 50 free pair of tickets is a pretty good reason, I think.

******

Big props, by the way, to all the listeners that showed up at Dania Jai-Alai last Wednesday. The final tally was over 600 people in the building that night, and over 300 of those were LeBatard Show listeners, so thanks for the support once again! We have announced the date of our next Poker Tournament at Dania Jai-Alai. It’s going to be Wednesday, September 17th, and this time it’s going to be a $50 buy-in… That way we’ll have some serious prize money at the end of the night.

If you want to get into our second poker tournament, the easiest way is to head over to the Dania Jai-Alai Poker Room and sign up. If you played in our first poker tournament, you know how much fun it was. This one will be even better. They’re going to be able to stay open later that night, so the blinds won’t have to be raised as often as they were during the first tournament. The poker tourney will sell out, so if you want to play, make sure you stop by the Dania Jai-Alai poker room sometime before the 17th of September and sign up.

I’m going to try and get some good celebs to play in the poker tournament too. Jimmy Snuka anyone? “I fold, brotha.”

Guess what I’m eating right now Mr. Hochman. Small Original smoothered in that wonderfully addictive mustard curry sauce. Mmm mmm mmm.

  • 2. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 22nd, 2008 at 4:44 pm

I am hearing good things about the Canes. Seems like Randy has brought back a key element that has been missing the last few years…SPEED!!! Also hearing the defense is tough. I have a good feeling about The U this year. I am not saying National Title but they should have a better bowl than one on a blue field.

Hoch what time is the Soo Woo Event? I will do my best to make it.

  • 3. TC  |  August 22nd, 2008 at 4:46 pm

By the way, thank you for doing something about the blinds for the poker tournament. I was at the last one (sat 2 seats down from Steve White. He was a nice guy, asked if we listened to the station. But for some reason it seemed like our table was full of randoms with little idea about the show.)

Anyway, yeah thanks for the blinds. I was busted out in 25 mintues last time bc I lost one hand and 15 minutes later only had 3x big blind. Not fun. Especially if we’re gonna drop 50 bucks on it. Maybe I’ll wear my Hochamania shirt this time.

  • 4. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 22nd, 2008 at 5:47 pm

Yeah TC were you Hochamania T, might bring some luck. Any other Hochamanics gonna play? Yeah $50 is a bit steep I though the $25 was a good buy in.

Hoch how about door prises just for showing up. T shirt that says “I lost my culo at the Dan Le Batard poker event”. Also the Linda Cohen book have that as a door prize for every one that enters.

  • 8. King of Loserville  |  August 24th, 2008 at 10:19 pm

This is not Goodbye; Rather until next time:

What’s up my fellow Hochamaniacs..I’m hanging up my keyboard for now. I am starting to move into a new and very exciting time of my 28 year young life. It’s going to be taking a lot of my days and nights, and most of my weekends, but I hope that these changes will greet me with a enormous amount of happiness both personally and professional. I am a lifetime consumer of things. I grab onto something and don’t let go. This next step for me is going to be a challenge and I need to pull all my energies together to get to my goal. With that, I must part ways with this blog and pretty much a lot of other vices that I enjoy.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to meet any of you but I hope that one day I will. Hoch you are the man…and I hope one day, in some way we meet, along with the rest of the Hochamaniacs.

Thanks guys for making this blog real enjoyable for me, and I still one day plan to open up my own site. I already have a number of domains registered and plan on taking that adventure full throttle on the future.

Hass / Manuel…Keep it real, let our voices be heard.

    King of Loserville out!

  • 9. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 25th, 2008 at 2:03 am

Good Luck King. You are always welcome here, you were the voice of reason. Stop by once in a while just to say hi or that Zas sucks.

If you ever make it to an event ask Hoch if I am there. I would like to meet ya.

Again good luck and wishing you the best.

  • 10. manuel  |  August 25th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

King, good rant on the last blog. I agree with you 100%.

You will be missed…maybe when you come back, this town will no longer be “Loserville”.

Like Hass says, drop in every now and then to let us know you’re alive.

  • 11. manuel  |  August 25th, 2008 at 1:33 pm

Hoch, you think like a GENIUS.

Booking some “celebs” like Snuka, or maybe Mean Gene (although me may be too expensive) would be so freaking awesome I’m salivating just thinking about it.

On a side note, seriously, am I the only one who misses Fake Howard and some of the older bits the show used to do (like Hoch singing parody songs, match game, etc). Hoch, is Steve White clamping down the creativity of the LeBatard Show?

  • 12. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 25th, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Hoch promote the blog on show. We lost King and haven’t hear from knicks fan in months.

  • 13. TC  |  August 25th, 2008 at 2:49 pm

King, dont be so mysterious. Where the hell are you moving too? Nam? I mean if your just going from the Grove to Brickell, I think your over reacting a bit. Fill us in man….

  • 14. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 25th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

TC, King said “starting to move into a new and very exciting time of my 28 year young life”. I don’t think he is actually moving.

  • 15. TC  |  August 25th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

What is he giving up drinking or something? I mean hes 28. Outside of knocking up some random Latina broad, what else does he have to worry about? Jesus, drink beer, get laid, pay your bills. It aint that hard.

  • 16. manuel  |  August 25th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

What a pussy Kimbo’s turned out to be. I always thought he was over hyped; but I figured he was a tough guy and would fight anyone at any time. Now he’s going to fight Shamrock, are you f’n kidding me?

And Dan sits there and says, “it’s his people, it’s his people”. Yeah, Kimbo has ZERO control over who he fights.

  • 17. TC  |  August 25th, 2008 at 9:15 pm

    1. Kimbo is looking to get paid. I dont think you can knock that.

    2. I dont think hes ducking people. But hes new at this so hes slowly building up his skills. Why does the guy have to fight the best right away. No one does that. You slowly move yourself up the ranks until your #2 and you fight #1. Thats how it works.

  • 18. Anonymous  |  August 26th, 2008 at 3:10 am

    NO MAS ZASLOW. ADIOS KING

  • 19. manuel  |  August 26th, 2008 at 3:49 pm

    TC,

    1. A big part of MMA is earning that respect so you can have big money matches in the future. Although i’m pretty sure fighting Rogers would garner Kimbo equal $$ to fighting Shamrock. These guys sign “x amount of fights” per contract and the money is distributed equally among the fights. Maybe he gets a bonus for the gate or the rating?

    2. The problem with this argument is that, as sad as it may sound, Kimbo is probably the best heavyweight in EXC. Rogers is younger, but he’s got minimal skills himself. I can’t really buy the argument that he’s being “groomed” specially at his age. He needs to fight guys that are younger and not an almost 50 over the hill has been. It hurts his already shaky credibility and will hurt his financial potential in the future.

  • 20. TC  |  August 26th, 2008 at 7:07 pm

Manuel, I wrote a lengthly response that got messed up when I tried to send it, but basically the point was Kimbo has a lot of interested ($$$) parties who needs to balance their priorities (CBS, EXC, his managers/agents, etc) It must be tough with all those opinions.

  • 21. manuel  |  August 27th, 2008 at 1:54 am

Sorry TC. Next time, i’ll just agree with you and have no opinion….this is a blog meant for opinions, no?

  • 22. John  |  August 27th, 2008 at 5:22 am

would luv to be there but i live way up in west palm plus im workin

  • 23. TC  |  August 27th, 2008 at 1:03 pm

No dude, you misunderstood me. I didnt mean your opinion. I meant the opinions of the interested parties of Kimbos MMA career. I should have said It must be tough dealing with all those varying interests.

I actually can understand all of the anti-Kimbo arguments. They all make sense. I just can sympathize and see the pressure he must be under. Thats all.

I wouldnt hate on a fellow Hochamaniac.

  • 24. TC  |  August 27th, 2008 at 1:05 pm

By the way, the stupid ass secretary (administrative assistant my ass) in my office hoards all the coffee creme. God damn I hate office life sometimes.

What I really want to do is DANCE!

  • 25. manuel  |  August 27th, 2008 at 3:31 pm

Sorry TC, my misunderstanding. Well, if he loses to Shamrock, he’s done.

  • 26. manuel  |  August 27th, 2008 at 3:31 pm

    Oh, I forgot…

FUCK THE MARLINS AND KEVIN GREGG.

  • 27. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 27th, 2008 at 5:48 pm

What the fuck was that last night. I turned to the Hillary speech and the fish were winning. Then afterward total fuckup. These guys need to win these games. FUCK!!!

  • 28. manuel  |  August 27th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

Yeah, I had the exact same experience as you Hass. It was 9-6 and I thought to myself, no way we blow this and switched to one of the news channels to watch Hillary.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the score on ESPN News.

  • 29. manuel  |  August 27th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

Ok, the Hoch call in today was absolutely hilarious.

  • 30. Hoch  |  August 27th, 2008 at 10:07 pm

i also missed the end of the game cause i was watching hillary. hillary was so good that i didn’t even mind the marlins blown game!

  • 31. TC  |  August 28th, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Ew Hoch you LIKE Hilary? She would eat your babies to get elected. She makes my skin crawl with that fucking fake smile and the CLAP CLAP, POINT POINT.

  • 32. manuel  |  August 28th, 2008 at 1:11 pm

I’m with you on this one TC. Her speech was the equivalent of pre-game football coach “cliche” speak.

Bill on the other hand rocked and made me wish maybe he was running (or could run). He basically held Obama’s hand last night and laid out what should be his framework, becuase frankly, Obama’s resume is sooooooo thin its becoming painfully obvious that he got to this point strictly on charisma and not achievements.

This should get Hoch fired up…lol.

  • 33. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 28th, 2008 at 1:30 pm

I flipped over to QAM during a break (As most of you know I listen to Defo in the morning) and Goldie was filling in for Joe. When did Goldie go back to QAM?

All I have to say bout the up coming elections is Reagan made me a Democrat. I was a big Reagan supporter till about 81. Hell I wore a “Nixon Now More Than Ever” pin to my first communion.

Really if Goldie is on QAM who is the hockey voice of the Panthers? What do I care? Best Hockey voice all time, Dan Kelly.

  • 34. manuel  |  August 28th, 2008 at 1:57 pm

I actually texted Stugotz about Goldie going back to QAM as well…no response. He’s just a fill in host there too, so I wonder what happened.

Goldie is the TV voice of the Panthers, no affiliation to 790. Randy Mohler is the radio voice.

  • 35. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 28th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

What happened is Zas has picture of Steve White having gay sex. What other explanation can there be that the little prick has a show.

I have said it before Goldie is this markets best hockey guy. You can really tell he has a passion and knows the game. Not really a Yugh Goldie fan but if I want hockey info he is my first choice.

  • 36. manuel  |  August 28th, 2008 at 6:09 pm

No question. I’m still mad that Defo is not on at 7 p. m.

I always wondered what happened between 790 and Minervini and Toast. I’m going way back now.

  • 37. Hassenpfeffer  |  August 28th, 2008 at 6:32 pm

Maybe Hoch can shed a little light on the subject.

  • 38. manup  |  August 28th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Just reading the comments above I think Zaslow is a waste of a show. His facts are the furthest from reality. Most of the hosts have co hosts, not him ?

  • 39. Jose Can-snitch-o  |  September 6th, 2008 at 5:41 pm

Hoch, I was listening–uncomfortably–to your very relevant debate with LeBatard yesterday about fire in an athlete’s or coach’s eyes.

Does it ever occur to you to question your stance when you see (conventional and often illogical) Stugotz on the same side of the fence as you? Folks like Stugotz are a throwback to 560 and the puke that goes on over on that station.

That’s not an insult aimed at Stugotz mind you. It’s simply a fact. He’s cliche-man after all. We all know this. That’s why he can’t host a show. We listeners can’t discern a difference between 560 and 790 when Dan isn’t there.

So for crying out loud, wake up, Hoch!

  • 40. Jose Can-snitch-o  |  September 6th, 2008 at 5:48 pm

Zas’s show may not be the best. I’ll grant anyone that. However, no one is worse than Sedano! Damn, his show makes my skin crawl. I cringe when he’s on. And I love listening to 790, too. I really try to listen.

But Sedano drops so many “I means” and “likes.” He sounds like a 12-year old schoolgirl.

On top of that, he’s not witty at all. He says nothing analytical. Fuck analysis on his show. The only respite a listener gets from his asinine crap is when he interviews a sportswriter or something.

Sedano needs to go. He’s not witty, he can’t analyze worth shit, and he’s not ever funny. How many laughs does he bring to the airwaves? None. Sedano is annoying. Ugh.
