Hurricanes New Home… By Hoch
August 30th, 2008
I went to the Hurricanes’ game Thursday night. First Cane game I’ve been to since I was a student at UM from 1987-1991. I didn’t like traveling down to the Orange Bowl… Too long a drive for me and the stadium felt too old. I’m not one of those guys that needs “history.” Give me new, modern, updated, and fresh anytime. My family and I went on a road trip this summer. In two cities we stayed at “historic” hotels. And I hated them. Give me new. Give me fresh.
I got exactly what I wanted from Dolphins Stadium Thursday night. I enjoyed watching the Hurricanes there. I enjoyed the gigantic high-definition screens. I enjoyed the wide variety of food choices. I enjoyed the superior sound system. I enjoyed watching the adrenaline producing videos that played before and during the game. I’m happy the Canes moved to Dolphins Stadium. Now I feel like I can actually take my 4 year old to a Hurricanes’ game and start building the Canes tradition in him. (No one without kids would care about this… but there was a great kids area set up outside the stadium. Bounce houses galore!)
Don’t get me wrong, I do like tradition. I grew up watching Michael Jordan play at the old Chicago Stadium. Now they play in the United Center. And my memories of Jordan and the Bulls haven’t changed. A team’s history doesn’t change when it moves venues. We all like to upgrade things in our lives. I loved the house I lived in when I was growing up… but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to move into a newer, fresher, more updated house as I got older. Moving didn’t diminish any memories.
So I sat in Dolphins Stadium and watched UM crush Charleston Southern. It all felt good to me. Felt like a home game. Felt like a Canes game. Felt like an old-school Canes thrashing. (Albeit against a sub-division team, but what the hell!?)
I say “well done Canes!” Good luck on the move to Dolphins Stadium. I’ll be seeing you more now.

First of all as a grad you haven’t been to a game since 91? SHAME on you.
Whine, whine, whine whine, “ I didn’t like traveling down to the OB, too long a drive” And “I didn’t like the stadium”. Damn Hoch you are a whiney bitch, you could have taken the train.
Then you want modern updated stuff. Okay I will give you that but for someone that what’s to retire good but not great Heat players it’s an odd statement. My option of the OB is that it was a majestic dump. I remember sitting there with a full moon over Miami hovering over the east end zone and saying to my friends “Canes Football and a full moon over Miami, life does not get any better than this”. You will not have this at Dolphins stadium.
Your historic hotels LIST THEM!!! I stayed at The Breakers in Palm Beach for free thanks to my sister in-law and it was great. Of course it was free and I would never pay to stay there but it was really cool to stay in a place like that. Thanks Christine, I had a great time.
So I guess you hate South Beach because it’s old and you don’t like the Art-Deco style. Is this true? I love the Art Deco of Miami.
You got exactly what you wanted from Dolphins Stadium. Good for you but did you get the “Moon over Miami”, the 13th man when the oppression was in the West End Zone? Were you able to buy a beer in the 4th quarter or just sit in the stands and remember the history that the OB held? NO you didn’t.
As far as your Bulls comment you failed to mention the Hawks (Chicago Blackhawks for those that don’t know hockey) I have this to say. The organ that was used in Chicago Stadium was awesome…and I am from St. Louis we hate the Blackhawks almost as much as we hate the Cubs. The point is and Hoch can attest to this, that organ went through you. I have heard this from Blues and Hawk fans. The Styx Song “Blue Collar Man” the organ used in the song was that of Chicago Stadium. That organ is no more.
Hoch I have no kids but I love seeing kids at sporting events. I don’t see many at Dolphin or Canes games but I see many Marlins games. I love seeing kids at the Marlins games it reminds me of when my father a die-hard Reds fan use to take me and my family to Busch Stadium to see the Cards and the “Big Red Machine”. My dad also took us to see Blues Hockey, and the ABA Spirits of Louis in the old St. Louis Arena what an old building, built in 1921 but really cool. Yes, crappy building but with character. I went off my point. I don’t have kids but when I go to games I love to see kids there. I never had the Kid’s section when I was young, wish I did but I don’t think it affected my fanizim. I think if the parent or family shows the kid the game they will get it. Better if they play it.
I did see highlights of the Canes game and as I said in a past post Randy has but SPEED back in the Canes. And yes Hoch it doesn’t matter if the Canes Play in the OB or Joe Robbie, what matter is if they win. I think Randy is the man to but Hurricane Football back on the map for now and years to come. Please get Randy at an event. No matter where it is I will be there.
Hoch you threw many things out there on this blog nice job. I made many points. I do want to say I am a Canes fan and weather they play in the OB or Wayne Stadium I will still be a fan. Right now Randy Shannon is getting the job done. Much respect for Randy. If Randy can put The U back on the map maybe he will be coach for life. I think The U needs that and the man to do that is Randy Shannon.

Damn typos…one day I will get it right. LOL
3. Hoch | August 30th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Chicago stadium had the greatest organist ever— Nancy Faust. Remember her?
4. T | August 30th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
You most likely wont get any sand in your v@gina at JRS.
So you have that going for you…..which is nice
5. manuel | August 30th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
I’m with Hoch on this one. I don’t believe in the “romantic cathedrals” based around stadiums. Winning is what makes it “romantic” in my opinion. I want comfort and the OB had stopped being even passable for a long time.
Bring on the new/next generation of ‘Canes players. We will be great again within 2 years.
6. T | August 31st, 2008 at 4:08 am
If you want “comfort” stay home with your boyfriend, you go to games to……youknow, watch the games….and JRS sucks for actually watching the game on the field.
7. Hassenpfeffer | August 31st, 2008 at 5:45 am
Yeah Hoch I know who Nancy is but being from STL Ernie Hays is the man.
Here’s a STL River Front Times (New Times here) artical on Ernie. Nancy is also mentioned.
http://www.riverfronttimes.com/2005-10-05/news/dirty-ernie/
You were closer to the field at the OB.
8. manuel | August 31st, 2008 at 5:57 am
What the hell are you talking about T? JRS is fine to watch a game. Tell me what’s so bad?
With the crazy high prices there, I want to be able to watch the game in comfort…you know, get my moneys worth. Don’t sell me that BS about “tradition” or “history”, I ain’t buying. If you like watching a game on a metal bleacher with piss soaked bathroom floors, be my guest.
9. Hassenpfeffer | August 31st, 2008 at 8:30 am
The prices were cheap when I went to the OB yeah it needed to go but I really liked how the staduim was set up. Open end on the east so you got a breeze. Dolphins staduim sucks durning the day. I thought old Busch stadium was hot. Casey Stengal said this about old Busch “it sure holds the heat well”.
When Joe Robbie showed JRS to Al Davis, Joe asked Al what he thought. Al said it sucked becaue the fans were too far from the field.
Honestly I like Dolphins Staduim for football but really they should put a something to screen the sun out. It is to fucken hot for 1pm games.
So manuel it’s not comfort when the sun is beating down on you and you don’t have an appite and you just want water. I say a nice big sun shade over the south end of the stadium.
Now that would be comfort.

Hoch you need to pimp the blog. Pimp it baby. Pimp it real good. Really we havent heard from knicks fan in months, hoops in weeks. King is gone what it’s me and manuel?
You also don’t pimp the myspace so get your pimp han on Hoch and start pimpem. Or at least have your Ho’s Dan and Stugtoz give some oral.
11. manup | September 2nd, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Randy will get this ship turned around, give him time. When I first came down here DEFO was on, now you have a short guy with a lisp trying to bust on New Yorkers, not working.
12. TC | September 2nd, 2008 at 8:35 pm
You got your pimp Hass. Unfortunately, it was on the internet show. So I expect maybe 2 new people.
13. manuel | September 2nd, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Hass,
We finally got a half hearted advertising during the internet commercial from our fearless leader. Better than nothing I guess.
…this blog is slowly dying….

For anyone who thinks that UM playing at Dolphins Stadium is a bad thing needs to get with the times. How hard was it to watch a game at the OB and not have a replay. I can tell you that I went to 2 games in my lifetime there and had a bad experience both times because I didn’t have replays.
I was at the game on Thursday and I thought it was a great experience. I’m a Dolphins season tix fan and if you are ok with the pro team playing there then I don’t understand why you have a problem with a college football team to play there.
Like I said before, get with the times!!!
15. Hassenpfeffer | September 2nd, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Jeff, welcome aboard. I will not disagree with you, hands down Dolphins Stadium better than the OB.
I referred to the OB as a majestic dump. It was the atmosphere. I have gone to games with friends from out of town and they all loved there OB experience. Yeah there weren’t enough bathrooms and there was water running everywhere and the scoreboard needed to be updated. With all that the ol gal had her charm. Maybe it’s not for all but she will be missed.
More importantly is that the Canes get back to there old for with the swagger and destroying everyone not just the powder-puffs.
16. 909 | September 3rd, 2008 at 4:53 am
this sucks
17. Hassenpfeffer | September 3rd, 2008 at 5:40 am
909-
Rule number one “this sucks” without a qualifier is incorrect although the statement “Zas sucks” is just stating fact. So if something sucks then please explain, what, why and or who. Although if it is Zas sucks then “Zas Sucks” is just stating fact and everyone knows it’s a true statement.
BTW: R U from San Bernardino? .
18. 954 Jeff from Internet | September 3rd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Hassenpfeffer, thanks for the welcome. Hoch made it a point to come check out the blogs so I will be recurring poster. I’m sure it didn’t help that the two games I went to involved FIU and Duke.
I couldn’t agree more that the main thing is that we start a new winning streak at home and bring the swagger back to the southern part of this state!!
19. manuel | September 3rd, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Well, Hoch’s 15 second advertising brought us a new poster. Welcome Jeff.
If he does that weekly, we could grow to you know…15-20 people?

I gotta say, the Butterbean and the Mean Gene segments were an absolute riot yesterday. The “hello?” makes me cry in laughter.
Hoch, hopefully they’ll be back for celebrity football picks.
22. 954 Jeff from Internet | September 3rd, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Thanks Manuel, WORK IT!!
The Butter interview was pretty good yesterday especially when he started going, “HELLO?, HELLO?”
790 should buy that guy a new phone!!
23. manup | September 3rd, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Hoch, your show is great man a ton of laughs. Did I hear Goldie on the other station ? Surprised he never got a slot, surely he would be better then what you got at 7 the Zas show. Love your show.Peaceeeeee
24. Hoch | September 4th, 2008 at 11:26 am
What we need to do is e-mail everyone in our address books and invite them to become part of this blog… We can become huge! But the original Hochamaniacs will always remain in control.
25. TC | September 4th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Man oh man Sarah Hottie hit a home run last night. I sure could get used to her. As a caller said on the show yesterday, is it wrong to pleasure yourself to the Vice President of the United States?
26. Hassenpfeffer | September 4th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
The woman is a NAZI, I still would hit it but we don’t need a Right Winged Hypocrite.
27. manuel | September 4th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Sarah was pretty good. Even the democratic soaked MSNBC acknowledged that she kicked ass. Her shots at Obama were hilarious.
Hoch, i’m pretty sure you want to hate her; but she’s just too damn sexy…lol.
28. manuel | September 4th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
C’mmon Hass, a Nazi? Don’t you think that may be just a tad extreme. Should I call Obama a communist?
29. 954 Jeff from Internet | September 4th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
“Should I call Obama a communist?”
Manuel, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard someone say that about him. I really have no idea who I’m going to vote for. I’m having a hard time believing that either of the candidates are going to make the US a better place to live for the next 4 years.
Does Sarah remind anyone of Tina Fay?
30. manuel | September 4th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
She totally is a total Tina Fay look alike and I would hit that hard…for some reason i find Fay hot…maybe its the glasses?
I am undecided as well; but it really surprises me when we compare people to Nazi’s or any other extreme party from the past. I know its done as a knock on the candidate. I’m not jewish, so I don’t have the right to be offended; but the Nazi’s were a bit more brutal than anyone running for office and comparing anyone to them kinda bothers me. It’s a lazy insult…sorry Hass.
31. Hassenpfeffer | September 4th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Yeah Tina Fay with a rack and minus the scar.
I am having problems with some of my posts not posting. Is anyone else?
32. manuel | September 4th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Not me, posting just fine. Are you at work on a network or something?
33. 954 Jeff from Internet | September 4th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Tina Fey is definitely a hottie with glasses. Did you know her real first name is Elizabeth?
I’m not having any problems with posting myself.
34. Hoch | September 4th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Yeah, can’t say I’m a big fan of hers, although she does look hot. She’s anti-abortion, anti-stem cell research, anti-sex education, pro-gun, blah, blah, blah. The only thing I agree with her on is offshore drilling. We need to drill now! Obama all day!
35. manuel | September 4th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Common Hoch, government needs to pay for everything? I think that sex education should be taught at home, by you know…parents? Stem Cell, that’s what f’n universities are for. All I want from my government is security, education and transit. After that, but out of my business.
36. TC | September 4th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Milton Freidmen and Adam Smith would be proud of you Manual.
37. manuel | September 4th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
TC….thank you?

38. Hassenpfeffer | September 4th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Posting at home and work. Last night I tried in Firefox and IE 7. Then this morning in Firefox at work. It only seems to happen when I mention the talentless little fuck. Kinda freaky.
I agree with Hoch I don’t like Sarah’s politics but she sure is nice to look at. If you all remember the movie Escape from LA with Kurt Russell (sequel to Escape from NY) the president that would be how Sarah would run the country.
Hoch all offshore drilling is going to do is make the oil companies richer. We need alternative fuels.
39. TC | September 4th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
You guys all act like the President is some kind of all powerful dictator. Doesn’t anybody remember checks and balances and the Congress and all that shit. George Bushs biggest mistake was Iraq and now that capital is all used up so any near future president wont be invading anybody.
I dont want to get into a huge thing, but people acting like the world will fall apart if Sarah Sexy becomes president somehow are either just exaggerating or clueless.
40. Hassenpfeffer | September 4th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
TC have you noticed what those pieces of shits GW and Cheney have done. Checks and balances? Yeah it is suppose to be that way.
“If this was a dictatorship it would be a heck of a lot easier.”
G.W Bush
41. manuel | September 4th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
there are a heck of a lot of people that easier to defend than GW; but lets not act like someone else is going to go into the white house and “wave a magic wand” to quote both Bush AND Obama.
42. Hassenpfeffer | September 5th, 2008 at 3:12 am
Oh you are so right manuel it’s going to take much more than a magic wand to fix this mess.
43. TC | September 5th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Jesus, whats the mess? Ok, Iraq was a bad mistake, but hey we won. No terrorist attacks since 9/11. NONE. The economy is weak, but thats not the govs fault. That was Wall Street and the nature of capitalism. Liberals act like the USA is dead and its the end of the world every election if they dont win.
Hoch your blog is now corrupted by politics.
44. manup | September 5th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Big game for the Hurricanes to play well against a prime time team. To the bloggers who do you guys listen to when the Fish are not on, I tried and tried to listen at 7 but shorty is a joke
45. manuel | September 5th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I do like Armando, so I can listen to him even if Azlow is on with him.
46. 954 Jeff from Internet | September 5th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Manup, its really hard sometimes to listen to Zas but I did like the Hurricane show they had on this past week.
That mother “F”er hung up on me the other day because I was driving on the road and it was raining hard and I guess he couldn’t hear what I was saying.
47. manuel | September 5th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Jeff,
Hass can probably tell you some funny stories about Azlow and him trying to call in. We should prank call his show and just throw out “hochmania”; but Hoch would probably get annoyed.
48. manup | September 5th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Thanks. Being from up North and listening to WFAN that was sports. I like DAN and some others as there show is the real deal but this little punk is annoying at 7
49. The Man with No Name | September 5th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Did someone on this blog have the nerve to say we won the war in Iraq? Then why the fuck are we still over there?
The RNC looked like a episode of Ellen. Did any woman even listen to anything this lady said? Oh that’s right. She said nothing. Introduced us to her family, is that the equivalent of getting to know Ted Ginn’s family?
Anyone here have a daughter, a girlfriend, wife or sister? Did you know that this anti-abortion Gov. wants to make abortions illegal!!! Any woman who gets raped in this country will have to keep the child unless there is any known harm to the woman or child.
Fuck that…
Pro Guns-in this bad economy the last thing we need is people with more guns on the street.
The skirt is all McCain was out to get, the skirt vote, period.
Women see a woman trying to become VP and they are like a horse at the Kentucky Derby, blinders on all the way.
She brings no value to this country, and with McCain one heart attack away from leaving office no one in their right mind can honestly believe that the Former Mayor of 8,000 (this is the equivalent to being the Mayor of 1/4 of Hialeah)can run this country.

What about the Dolphins game this weekend?

54. manup | September 6th, 2008 at 12:28 am
Wow your going with the Fins. I do think the Fins are going to be better then people think, and having watched alot of Chad, he is steady if healthy. The Jets O line is real solid which will help Jones and open up the passing game for Favre. The Jets are improved on the D. I can’t believe shorty hung up on anybody, probably sits on 10 phone books. Peaceeeeeeee
55. Hassenpfeffer | September 6th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Damn this place was blazen.
Okay, I have the Phins beating the Jets in my pool pick and am playing Ricky on my Fantasy Team.
The Canes will cover, if not out right win. WHY because they seem to have the Gators number.
Politics:
Man with No Name you make some good points don’t agree with all but some good points.
TC We were promised gas at 1$ a gallon if we invaded Iraq but what we have is record high gas prices. Funny that GOP oil men are in office with a GOP House and Senate that all this shit gets rubberstamped. there ajenda. BTW after Chenney had his secert meeting with the oil companies the price of oil/gas started going up and up and up and up and up….You get my point.
Back to sports.
I am in a Fantasy league this year I am happy with my team and fell I have a shot at the playoffs. ANYONE else do this fantasy thing? Please post.
BTW: A big shout out to Stugotz for the drafting advice. I didn’t go RB like he suggested but Brady is my QB. RB’s and WR win championships. I kept that at heart. Thanks Stugotz.
56. Hassenpfeffer | September 6th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Oh I forgot if the Marlins are not on I lisen to Andrew Siciliano & Krystal Fernandez on 640 AM. Krystal is a hottie. Zas needs to go.
57. Hassenpfeffer | September 6th, 2008 at 8:27 am
Jeff manuel is correct that fuck Zas hung up on me. I called in to question his statement that the Marlins will miss Cabrera and the D-Train. He never answered. he tried to change the subject and then when I tried to stop him he just said this is my show and I will ask the questions and then hung up on me.
SO, when he showed at Jai Alai 2 weeks later I ripped in to him and the little fuck was very quite. He just he is working on his show and to give him another chance. WEll I did but he is STILL the same fuck that is was born to be. I also spoke to Steve White about Zas at the prior Jai Alai event and Steve just said the “Zas needs some work” Well looks like after 6 months he still needs alot of work. BTW Dan did try to stick up for Zas when some underaged kid came up and started sucking the thimble known as Zas’s cock. Dan just said “see Hass there is someone that likes Zas he has fans”. Well for fucks sake the kid couldn’t even grow a Wanstache.
I say boycott Zas and if you shows up at an event RIP the little fuck. Also tell Steve White that Zas is shit.
58. Hassenpfeffer | September 6th, 2008 at 8:55 am

Hoch promo this thing on air.
We still having a Marlins Night Out?
59. manup | September 6th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Hass, a Mets fan, Jets Fan and Knicks fan .My blessings were answered that Isiah is not running the team. I got to say I respect the Fish and Fins as I think Parcells will turn the ship around look at history. All my buddies from up North that now live here laugh there ass off at Zas, don’t know if he truly understands sports but likes to talk. Hanging up on you, guess he is a tough guy on radio but in person is shortttttttttty
60. manuel | September 6th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Hass,
Huge fantasyj player here. I’ve been commissioner of a 12 teams league with the same owners since 1993…back when Dan Marino was the #1 pick.. ha ha.
I hope your right about the ‘Canes; but i believe they usually have their number when they have first round nfl picks all over the team.
I think the Dolphins will win 7-9 games this year. Although, I still think the best thing for the Dolphins is to have another 3-5 win season, get the Tuna one more high pick and then they can make the leap to fighting the Pats for the division.
Fuck the Jets, spending all this money on old fucks will have them rebuilding within 2 seasons…mark my words.
61. manuel | September 7th, 2008 at 2:26 am
Those fucking refs suck! Reversing that catch when the Gator receiver clearly didn’t keep possession is a joke.

63. Hassenpfeffer | September 7th, 2008 at 4:58 am
Yea manuel you are correct. These Canes look tough.
Word to any Gator Fan on this blog. They will lose at least two games in the SEC. They are over rated.
manup, yes I am going with the fins. Here’s is my Farve rant.
http://www.790theticket.com/shows/2008/08/04/back-from-vacation-by-hoch/
Post 32.
I think Pennington will pick apart his old team. He is pissed and has the knowlege of his old team. He will share and beable to read the D like it was his own team.
Farve just needs to take his meds.
Sorry Jet’s fans but I will say here as I say to my Jet fans at work. Farve will throw more INTs than TD
s.
The Jets are makeing the same mistike that the the Redskins are making and Don Shula made. Old washed out guys to win. The only one that can do that trick is Al Davis but he is too fucken old to have a clue.

Hass, big fantasy sports guy here!! Baseball, basketball, football. I do those 3 sports all the time. I’ve dabbled into college pick’em as well as NFL pick’em but really haven’t done those in a while. No doubt I do the NCAA bracket thing every year too.
I’ve called in once and got hung up on so when it comes to listening to anything I’m usually changing the channel. His knowledge of sports isn’t there and he will say one thing and then its not true. You send him a text to correct him and he takes it personal. If you get your facts straight in the first place you wouldn’t get those texts.

Manuel, I couldn’t agree more about that questionable call. That WR didn’t keep possession when he hit the ground so I didn’t understand how they could change the call. I’m sure it had something to do with the SEC crew who was running that game.
Also watched that UFC PPV and Liddell got knocked the “F” out!! It was a pretty good PPV. Usually I’m a bit disappointed with them but there last 2 events that I’ve seen were pretty good. I can’t wait till their October and November events.
